Nostradamus Predictions, Prophecies of Nostradamus, Biography

Who is Nostradamus?

Michel de Nostredame (Michael of Our Lady) Known as Nostradamus. He was born in the South of France in 1503 where he studied the humanities. He obtained his doctorate in philosophy and medicine at the age of twenty-six. Later, he was appointed adviser and personal physician to the Kings of France, a post which he retained through the reigns of Henry II, Francis II, and Charles IX. A member of the Third Order of St. Francis, he enjoyed the friendship of Pope Pius IV. He was a devout Catholic all his life, and he died in 1566.

Nostradamus Predictions

Nostradamus is one of the most famous men in the topic of prophecies or predictions. He wrote his first book of Quatrains, four line predictions, in 1555 and books are still being rolled out today. There is even a Nostradamus For Dummies. Following are a few of the clearest evidence that he could accurately predict the future. Below it will follow his best predictions of our scary future.

Death of Henry II

Prediction:

"The young lion will overcome the older one,   On the field of combat in a single battle;   He will pierce his eyes through a golden cage,   Two wounds made one, then he dies a cruel death."

What happened: In the summer of 1559 King Henry II of France (older one) lined up to joust the Comte de Montgomery (young lion), six years his junior, on the fields of France (field of combat).

Both had lions on their shields.

In their final pass Montgomery's lance tilted up, and burst through the king's visor splintering to pieces.

Two shards, one through the eye (pierce his eyes through a golden cage), and one through the temple, lodged in the king's head (Two wounds made one).

Henry suffered for 10 days (then he dies a cruel death) before dying in his bed.

The Great Fire of London

Prediction:

"The blood of the just will be demanded of London
Burnt by fire in the year '66
The ancient Lady will fall from her high place
And many of the same sect will be killed."

What happened: The small fire that started in the bakery of Thomas Farriner on Pudding Lane in London September 2, 1666 (in the year '66) turned into a three day blaze that consumed the city. "The blood of the just will be demanded of London" obviously refers to the murder and persecution of Catholic priests and laymen that Protestantism unleashed after the British rejected the Catholic Faith.

French Revolution

Prediction:

  "From the enslaved populace, songs,
  Chants and demands
While princes and lords are held captive in prisons.
These will in the future by headless idiots
  Be received as divine prayers."

What happened: In 1789, the French people decided they'd had enough of poor aristocratic rule and revolted.

The peasants (enslaved populace) took control of Paris and forced their demands on royalty.

The aristocracy (princes and lords) were taken from power were locked in the Bastille (prisons) and beheaded at the guillotine.

Napoleon

Prediction:

"PAU, NAY, LORON will be more of fire than of the blood,   To swim in praise, the great one to flee to the confluence.   He will refuse entry to the Piuses,   The depraved ones and the Durance will keep them imprisoned. "

What happened: (PAU, NAY, LORON) Three towns in southern France: Pau, Nay and Oloron.

The capitalization hints that something is hidden within the words and to look further.

Rearranging them spells out NAPAULON ROY, or Napoleon the King in French.

(More of fire than of the blood), refers to Napoleon's non-noble lineage and the (refuse entry to the Piuses) speaks to Popes Pius VI and VII, both imprisoned by Napoleon.

Charles De Gaulle

Prediction:

"Hercules King of Rome and of Annemark,   Three times one surnamed de Gaulle will lead,   Italy and the one of St Mark to tremble,   First monarch, renowned above all."

What happened: Charles de Gaulle (de Gaulle), was a three time (Three times) leader of France.

First as leader of the Free French Forces, then as prime minister of the provisional post WWII government, then as the first president of the French Fifth Republic.

The Atomic Bomb

Prediction:

"Near the gates and within two cities
There will be scourges the like of which was never seen,
Famine within plague, people put out by steel,
Crying to the great immortal God for relief."

What happened: In early August 1945 the United States dropped two atomic weapons on the island of Japan, in (within two cities) Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The utter man-made devastation before unheard of (There will be scourges the like of which was never seen) and suffering endured by those in the blast and the radiation poisoning suffered by those who escaped the immediate detonation (Crying to the great immortal God for relief).

Other Predictions

Here are some other Nostradamus predictions that seem to be about our current future...

-------------------

"I find that learning shall be at a great loss, and that so many great floods shall happen before the universal conflagration, that there shall scarcely be any land that shall not be covered with water, and this shall last so long that except from what lives on mountains and in waters, all shall perish. Before and after these floods, however, there shall be such scarcity of rain and such a great deal of fire, and burning stones shall fall from heaven, that nothing unconsumed shall remain. The world shall be so diminished, and so few men shall be left unearth, that not enough will be found to plow the fields, and these will stay in fallow as long as they had once been tilled."

-------------------

"For seven days the great star shall be seen, As if two Suns in the sky should appear. The big Mastiff shall be howling all night, When the Pontiff shall go into exile. (The Comet, the earthquakes) … During the time the hairy star appears . . . Struck from heaven, shaky peace, shaking earth ... (The Rain of Stones) … New downpour, sudden, impetuous, Unexpected, shall hinder two armies. Stone, Heaven, Fire, shall fall over the sea …"

-------------------

"... plague, long famine and wars, and still more floods from now until the stated time. Before and after these, humanity shall several times be so severely diminished that scarcely anyone shall be found who wishes to take over the fields, which shall become free where they had previously been tied. This will be after the visible judgement of heaven..."

-------------------

"… because now the sword of death approaches us, with pestilence and war more horrible than there has ever been - because of three men's work - and famine. And this sword shall smite the earth and return to it often, for the stars confirm this upheaval and it is also written: I shall punish their injustices with iron rods, and shall strike them with blows."

-------------------

"The Great Star will blaze for

Seven days, The Cloud will cause two

suns to appear.

The Huge dog will howl at night

When the great pontiff will

Change lands."

-------------------

"During the appearance of

The Bearded Star, the three

great princes will be made

enemies. The shaky peace on

earth will be struck by fire

from the skies. Po, The

winding Tiber, a serpent placed

on the shore."

-------------------

"MABUS will soon die,

Then will come a horrible

slaughter of people and animals

At once vengance revealed coming

from a hundred hands

Thirst and Famine when

The Comet shall pass"

-------------------

"After a great misery for

mankind, an ever greater approaches

The great cycle of the centuries

renewed, it will rain blood, milk,

famine, war disease

In the sky will be seen a great fire

dragging a trail of sparks."

-------------------

"The great mountain, one mile

in circumference, After peace,

war, famine flooding...

It will spread far, drowning

antiquities and their mighty

foundations."

-------------------

"Then shall there be against the Church a greater persecution than ever was. And thereupon such great epidemics shall develop that more than two-thirds of the world shall perish, so much so that no one shall know the owners of the fields and houses, and grass shall grow in the streets of the cities knee-high and even more.

"In those days of desolation the largest cities will be depopulated, and he who would return therein shall be struck by the wrath of God. And the Sacred Place shall be turned into a stable for cattle, large and small, and put to profane uses. O what a calamitous time shall it be for women with Child! (Cf. Matt. 24:19).

"And during the said astrological computations, in harmony with Holy Writ, the persecution against the clergy shall have its beginning in the power of the North united with the East, and it shall last eleven years, or a little less, when the chief northern ruler shall fall, and his southern ally shall persecute the Church even more for three years by the apostolical seduction of one who has absolute power over the militant Church of God.

"The holy people of God, the keepers of His law, and all the religious orders shall be grievously persecuted and afflicted, so much that the blood of the true ecclesiastics shall flow all over. One of these horrible temporal rulers shall be highly praised by his followers for having spilled more of the innocent ecclesiastics' human blood than anyone could do with wine. The said ruler shall commit incredible crimes against the Church, and human blood shall run in the streets and in the churches as water after a heavy rainstorm. And the rivers shall also be red with blood."

-------------------

"The Communists will at first try to deceive, but as soon as they think they are masters of the whole world they will know no restraint and will begin to liquidate people by the million. However, a stupendous phenomenon will thwart their plans. Taking advantage of this, a number of military leaders will rebel and will deprive Communism of its "two swords", leaving only the symbols of these. These symbols will make a last attempt to arouse the people's enthusiasm, but in vain. The Great King to be will then be known, and the people will follow him in order to free themselves from the slavery they had themselves consented to. They will take up arms, and the uprising will begin in a city astride two rivers. Finally, the supreme Communist ruler himself will be unseated and put in the pillory.

"Then, within the same year and through the following years, a most horrible epidemic of plague shall break out, caused by the preceding famine, and such great tribulations as never have happened since the foundation of the Christian Church in the Latin regions, not even in Spain where traces remain. Thereupon, the third ruler of Aquila, hearing the cries of anguish of the peoples of his principal title, shall raise up so great an army, and shall retrace the steps of his ancestors in order to put most nations back on their feet again. "Then, shall the Great Vicar of the Cope be restored in his former estate."

-------------------

"For God's mercy will be poured forth only for a certain time, my son, until the majority of my prophecies are fulfilled and this fulfillment is complete. Then several times in the course of the doleful tempests the Lord shall say: Therefore I shall crush and destroy and show no mercy; and many other circumstances shall result from floods and continual rain of which I have written more fully in my other prophecies, composed at some length, not in a chronological sequence, in prose, limiting the places and times and exact dates so that future generations will see, while experiencing these inevitable events, how I have listed others in clearer language, so that despite their obscurities these things shall be understood: When the time comes for the removal of ignorance, the matter will be clearer still."

Who is Nostradamus?

Nostradamus was a French seer living in the 16th century. His predictions of the future are some of the most famous in history, and continue to enjoy widespread popularity to the current day. With the exception of Biblical prophets, his visions are by far the most well-known of the many seers who have existed over the past few centuries.

Nostradamus was born Michel de Nostredame at the dawn of the 16th century, to a notary and grain dealer. In his early adult years, Nostradamus practiced as an apothecary. He attended medical school for a period, but was expelled when his past as an apothecary was discovered. The next few years of his life were spent battling the plague in France and Italy.

As a physician he came to specialize in the Plague, on which he was recognized as one of the foremost experts: in his 'Traité des fardemens', though, he frankly admits that none of his cures actually had much effect on the disease - not even the bleeding that some commentators insist that he never used.

He was also famed as a mathematician and astrologer. On his semi-retirement in around 1550 he turned to writing. Apart from a highly popular cookbook (actually, a 'Treatise on Cosmetics and Conserves') and a number of academic works, his main fields were astrology (with which, as a contemporary doctor, he was of course already fully conversant) and prophecy. This brought him into great public prominence, and he became particularly influential at the French court. He also invested heavily in local public works - notably the irrigation of the vast Plaine de la Crau just to the west of his adopted home-town of Salon-de-Provence, a scheme whose results (like his house in the town) can still be seen today. Twice married, he had two children by his first wife Henriette d'Encausse (all three died) and six by his second.

In his late forties, Michel de Nostredame changed his name to the Latin Nostradamus, and began publishing tracts. He began writing yearly almanacs, which contained among them thousands of prophecies. These almanacs began to do quite well commercially, and their success prompted many distinguished people to request individual astrological consultations from Nostradamus.

Nostradamus was notably not much of an astrologer, however, and charts he prepared are consistently riddled with simple factual errors. Generally he requested his clients supply their own astrological charts for him to interpret. The success of his almanacs and private consultations led Nostradamus to undertake a more ambitious project, in the form of a massive book of prophetic quatrains, the remains of which are the work for which he is most well known.

Nostradamus had a positive relationship to the Church. Nonetheless, he was always wary of inciting the wrath of the Inquisition, particularly once his prophecies started attracting attention. Although he was clear that he used no magic to make his prophecies and the Inquisition had no suspicion about him, people nevertheless began to accuse him of being in league with the Devil to tell the future.

As a way of dealing with this, Nostradamus obfuscated his prophecies somewhat. The majority of the prophecy found in his major collection are in the form of quatrains, often using word play and various Classical languages to hide their meanings. This additionally allows a number of interpretations to be placed on each quatrain, helping to ensure that those who wish to find truth in them can match them to actual events as they occur.

Nostradamus drew heavily on Biblical allusions and prophecies to make his own predictions of the future. As well as adding a certain amount of weight to his writing, this also helped bolster his claims that his insights were spiritually guided, rather than being the work of the Devil. Many of Nostradamus' prophecies reference events that occur in the Old and New Testaments, and draw upon characters from the Bible as well.

Throughout his work, Nostradamus rejected the label of "prophet," holding that in reserve for the Biblical prophets who he viewed as truly inspired by a direct connection with God. His work he instead presented as rationalist, looking at planetary alignments in history, and correlating future events with events that happened in the past. Nostradamus never claimed to use any special forms of trance or mysticism to do his work, but rather presented it as an exercise of the mind, similar in form and function to the other natural sciences of the age.

Nostradamus died of gout in 1566, at 62, after supposedly predicting his own death to his secretary the night before. His works continued to be fairly popular for a time after his death, with the majority of the prophecies published together in 1568. Although most of his other works, such as the Almanacs which led to his fame in his lifetime, or the Orus Apollo, soon fell into obscurity, the Prophecies themselves saw a massive resurgence in the wake of the 19th century. The Prophecies by Nostradamus continue to be applied to major world events, and will likely continue to be applied to events well into the future.
